Acne starts when keratinized skin cells with in the hair follicles clump together and form a plug at the follicle’s opening where sebum from the sebaceous gland travels to the surface of the skin. The mixture of the “stuck” skin cells and the increased sebum feed bacteria called P.acne in the plugged follicle causing inflammation.
In other words – Clogged follicles feed bacteria, making a tiny infection and causing redness, swelling and discomfort in the form of a pimple!
FOUR STEPS THAT HELP CONTROL THE ACNE CYCLE:
1. Gently exfoliate – Ingredients that help to break down those keratinized skin clump include salicylic acid, sulfur and benzyl peroxide. Because they can break down the clumps, that makes them a great acne fighter. At Aesthetic Solutions we can help you to find the perfect “clump buster” for your skin!
2.Control the Sebum Production – It’s all about having balance. It’s really important to remember that over drying your skin (even if it’s really oily) will cause more sebum to be triggered and then you just end up with dry breakouts. The best way to keep a good balance is to use a toner or astringent. Your Aesthetic Solutions Consultant can help you choose the right one for your skin.
3.Decrease the p.acne Bacteria – Killing the bacteria is destroying acne at the root. At Aesthetic Solutions we can help you to do just that by the use of a topical antibacterial, by prescription medication should the trouble be systemic, or even by recommending Blu-U treatment to stop that “P” bacteria.
4. Protect from both UV rays and other inflammatory stimulants - inflammation is both a cause and the result of acne, so getting that inflammation under control is important. sunscreen always plays an important role in skin care, and even more so when trying to control inflammation, especially when controlling acne with active ingredients. UV rays complicate acne and cause more inflammation! Using a good sunscreen will keep that in check as well as taking care of sensitivity due to acne treatments. Aesthetic Solutions carries a great variety of sunscreens that won’t clog pores and are perfect for acne prone skin.
